Structure and properties of ingots made of Al-Cu-Mg alloy with Ag microadditions

Macroand microstructure, chemical and phase composition, conditions of homogenization and mechanical properties of a large-sized flat ingot made of Al–Cu–Mg alloy with microadditions of Ag and transition metals were investigated. The conditions of homogenization of ingots and temperature conditions of deformation were determined. It was shown that Ag is a part of composition of S-phase particles (Al 2CuMg).

An influence of polarizing current on properties of plasma electrolytic coatings for Mg–Zn–Zr alloys

The pulse shape, the ratio of cathode and anode components and intensity of the polarization signal injection allows one to change properties of plasma electrolytic coating (PEC). The most important factor to provide PEC of the desired quality and the given set of properties on the metal surface is the selection of optimal conditions of the polarizing current. The process of plasma electrolytic oxidation of Mg-Zn-Zr alloy was investigated in this work. The structure of the coating formed with the use of different sequences of the positive and negative components of current pulses was studied. An effect of the structure of the oxide coating on its protective properties was defined as well.

An influence of operating temperature on fatigue crack growth rate for intermetallic titanium alloy

Titanium alloys with operating temperatures higher than 550°С are very attractive for application in aircraft engines. Intermetallic alloys based on orthorhombic titanium aluminide are most promising of them. Forgings made of a new intermetallic alloy based on orthorhombic titanium aluminide (Ti 2NbAl) with laminar-globular structure were investigated in this work. FCGR was studied at three temperatures: 20, 600 and 650°С. It was shown that the temperature variations had a noticeable influence on FCGR.

Stydy of Ti–TiAl 3 laminate metal composite material

Possibility of using vacuum furnace synthetics method for production of Ti-TiAl 3 laminate metal composites system is considered. Microstructure of produced specimens was studied. Presence of TiAl 3 intermetallic phase was verified by using X-ray structural analysis.

Surface modification of parts made of structural steel in vacuum arc titanium plasma

The surface modification process of EI961 and EI866 steel samples in the titanium plasma of high-current vacuum-arc ion-plasma unit MAP-3 at the bias voltage within the range of 0–400 V is considered. A dependence of the specific rate of the sample weight change on the bias voltage was derived and it was shown that the modification process of the sample surface starts at the bias voltage within the range of 100–150 V and at temperature of the ion heating within 350–400°C. The elemental composition of the surface layer of the modified samples was studied as a function of the bias voltage. The values of voltage, when an inversion of the deposition rate and the transition to the ion etching of the surface of treated samples take place, were defined. It was shown that the ion modification of steel samples in titanium plasma allows one to change the structural state of the EI961 and EI866 steel sample surface.

The high-temperature intermetallic alloys for parts of gas-turbine engines

Possibility of application of the VKNA alloys based on Ni 3Al developed at VIAM as materials for production of components of the combustion chamber, shutters and mating rings of nozzles of advanced GTE is considered. Relationships between composition, structure and physics and mechanical properties of intermetallic compounds were determined.

An effect of silicon and phosphorus on high temperature properties and structure-phase transformations of single crystals of VGM4-VI superalloy

An effect of silicon and phosphorus on high-temperature properties of single crystals of VGM4-VI alloy used for single crystal blade castings of gas turbine engines was studied. It was stated that the both impurities (in case of their high content) reduce high-temperature properties of single crystals alloy. The maximum allowable content of impurities in the alloy was determined. With the help of the scanning electron microscopy, it was stated that the high content of these impurities allows one to increase microporosity of single crystals and intensify the coagulation process of dispersed particles of strengthening γ'-phase.

Creation of nanostructure state in cast supperalloy due to microalloying with lanthanum

A nanotechnology of microalloying of VZhM4-VI alloy with lanthanum was studied. An additional increase in high temperature properties was achieved due to alloying with lanthanum. It results in precipitation of nanostructured γʹ -phase (particle sizes up to 100 nm) on ( γ/γʹ ) - interphase boundaries. In this case, dislocation structure is stabilized and movement of interphase dislocations at high temperature creep is hindered.

Study of moisture transport rules and development of a standard on measurement of the diffusion coefficient and moisture content limit to evaluate mechanical properties of carbon fiber reinforced plastics

A dependence of moisture content on geometrical sizes and reinforcement pattern (0° and 90°) in carbon fiber reinforced plastics in the process of sorption and desorption of moisture was investigated. Authors studied the change of physical and mechanical properties of carbon fiber reinforced plastics depending on moisture content. A standard on determination of the diffusion coefficient and maximum moisture content for evaluation of mechanical properties of carbon fiber reinforced plastics was developed.

Production of phenolic-elastomer foams by sulfur-free vulcanization

The present work was aimed to define a possibility of phenolic-elastomer foams by sulfur-free vulcanization. Comparison of properties of foam plastics produced by sulfur cure and sulfur-free vulcanization was carried out. Thermophysical, physical and mechanical properties of thermally vulcanized materials were investigated.

Compounding principles in the field of frost-resistant rubbers

Features of compounding of cold-resistant rubber compositions are considered. An influence of raw rubbers and components on properties of frost-resistant rubbers is investigated.

Features of the formation of monolithic structural radio absorbing materials based on composites filled with resistive fibers

Features of formation of structural radio absorbing materials based on glass-reinforced plastics filled with resistive fiber are described. The structure and composition of SRAM were determined by mathematical modeling and optimization. Results of research of strength characteristics of glass-reinforced plastics and results of experimental verification of radio engineering characteristics with the use of material samples within a wide range of frequencies are given in the paper as well.

Drop-weight impact testing of polymer composite material

Standards for mechanical testing of polymer composite materials samples (PCM) to define drop-weight impact, compression after the impact and residual strength were analyzed. The differences in the ways of PCM-samples mounting while impact testing were shown. Calculation methods for residual strength estimation of PCM samples at tension after impact tests according to the criterion of an equivalent hole (the residual strength value are obtained as too high) and the criterion of concentration (the residual strength values are obtained as understated) were analyzed.

Quality control of aviation parts made from polymer composite materials and multilayered adhered constructions
